Welcome
A warm welcome awaits you at
Aboyne-Dinnet Parish Church where we are a worshipping community
of God's people with various groups to
cater for all ages and many interests. As well as the Sunday
morning service at 11.30am
we have monthly All-Age Worship Events at
5.30pm as well as occasional additional Sunday evening
services at 6.30pm. Details of services, house
groups, Bible study and prayer meetings and
other events can be found on our diary page. |
Worship
At the heart of our worship is a deep desire
to glorify God and enjoy Him. The preaching is biblical and expository with the
usual pattern being a series of sermons following through a book of the Bible or
a theme. Praise can be led by an organist, a precentor, or other musicians and we
make use of the psalms, hymns and praise songs, the
words of which are all projected onto a large central screen. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated monthly, in
an informal manner, following the frequency established by Calvin in
Geneva and in a formal manner twice yearly in the Scottish reformed tradition of a rural parish. |
Our History
The village of
Aboyne itself was founded in 1671 by the first Earl of Aboyne.
Aboyne Parish Church
was constructed in 1842 on the site of the original church which was erected in
1761. There is a vault under the church which may date
back to 1762. At the time of the Union of the Established Church in 1929 Aboyne Parish
Church was renamed St Machar’s Parish Church and in 1936 it united with the former
United Free Church. In 1986 the Church was linked with Dinnet
Parish Church. In 1993 St Machar’s formed a union with Dinnet and became known
as Aboyne-Dinnet Parish Church and in 2006 the Church was
linked with Cromar Parish Church. |
Our church building
A major refurbishment of the sanctuary was completed in 1990. This
included moving the pipe organ from its central position to a more
suitable part of the building, the ceiling was refurbished, a new
heating and lighting system installed and all the electrics renewed. In
the Spring of 2007 another major refurbishment of the sanctuary was
carried out. This included the removal of the pews and replacement of the flooring with under-floor
heating. The pulpit and Table, from which Word and Sacrament are dispensed, continue to occupy central position.
In the Autumn of 2007 the pipe organ also underwent a major
refurbishment and will now, God-willing, be in use for many years to
come. |
